Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Work Permit or Visa to
teach in the UK?
Unless you have a British passport you will need permission to work in this
country. When we place you in a teaching post we will work with your new school to arrange
a Work Permit for you. If youre not looking for a long term position, you could
apply for a Working Holiday Visa.
Where would be a good
place to work?
Overseas trained teachers often like to work near friends or relatives in the UK.
If you dont have any contacts over here, consider London or one of the surrounding
Home Counties. Of course, you need to think through factors such as the cost of living and
accommodation, transport, communications and, of course, the kind of school you want to
work in.
What is the cost of
living in the UK?
This depends entirely on where you live. London is more expensive than other areas,
but salaries are weighted to take some account of this. Also bear in mind that currency
exchange rates can often change cost of living comparisons with other countries.
Can you meet me at the
airport?
Yes, well be happy to meet you at the airport and take you to your
accommodation if you wish. On the journey, feel free to bombard us with any questions you
may have about your teaching post, life in the UK or anything else!
What about accommodation when I arrive?
We will arrange temporary accommodation for you at a reasonable cost so that you
can go straight there on arrival in the UK. This will give you some breathing space to get
your bearings, talk to your new colleagues at school and look around for an apartment or
house share.
What documents do I need
to bring with me?
Bring your original teaching qualifications, a recent local police check, the
medical declaration form (which well send to you) and any open references or
testimonials.
